Top 5 Japanese Beers🍻
At the request of no one, I have decided to publish my top five Japanese beers. After much deliberation and more than ample sample time, I finally reached a conclusion. It is often said, well by me anyway, that the best way to learn about a country is to sample as many of its beers as possible. I have been dedicating myself to this task with a quasi-religious fervor. While Japanese monks chant scrupulously and sacredly to the sound of quiet bells and the aroma of saintly incense, I have been doing my own form of chanting to the sounds of a 500ml can of beer cracking open and the clock hand ticking over to an arguably early five o’clock. Without further ado… here are my findings:
5. Yebisu – the price tag suggests it should be higher up the list, but it’s smoothness isn’t enough to take it higher than no.5
4. Sapporo – it’s black label beer is delicious, but my fondness for this beer might be slightly biased, as a 10am factory tour last year and subsequent tastings led to a rather fun morning!
3. Co-Edo – an eco-friendly beer originating out of Kawagoe, Saitama prefecture. Help the environment, help your craft beer cravings. Win-win.
2. Lucky Dog – a delicious brew with noticeable citrus aromas, coming out of the beautiful city of Kyoto. I feel like a lucky dog every time I drink it!
1. Yona Yona – how can you go past a beer that repeats itself in it’s own name? This beer constantly repeats itself in my memory too as I make the commute home on a sultry summer day. The Yona Yona pale ale makes all its competitors pale in comparison!
